Speed Up Your Work Day

This is a video of me working on some independent research into the field of parallel computing, by way of beginning with a single-core processor. It’s a lot cooler than it sounds and it’s what my other blog is all about. The other blog is also very empty which is due to this course giving me so much work to do. Anyway. Here is me sped up working on getting AutoDock-Vina onto a hard-float debian distribution. I used kdenlive to speed everything up, it took a little longer to render with the changes than I thought it would, but it turned out nicely with Daft Punk’s Too long as the music, pun intended.

Tutorial for my Mother

Today my mother actually asked me how to get Spotify onto her iPhone so that she didn’t have to use her data to listen to her music. I decided that would be a perfect tutorial video to make since she will actually use it. I used Snagit to capture the screencast and photobooth to capture the video of me and iMovie to edit it all together.

How to Video

I decided to make a how to video for a gin and tonic since I was making one anyways. Besides the ingredients in the drink, I used iMovie and photobooth to make this video. I’d say this was the most refreshing assignment so far.

5 Second Film

For the five second film assignment I decided to make a video about the emotional stages I go through when playing online video games. I used iMovie to edit and photobooth to record.

NSFW Language btw. If you want me to edit it I can.

My Story

For the assignment “My Story” I created a story detailing all of the health issues I have had. I more or less just listed all of them and it still took over 4 minutes :/. I used iMovie to edit my movie together and recorded it with photobooth on my laptop. I added music from Daft Punk over the whole video. Oddly it is only blocked in Germany for copyright infringement…

Return to the Silent Era

The dawn of cinema had no audio; silent movies created an atmosphere with music and the use of cue cards. Take a 3-5 minute trailer of a modern movie and render it in the form of the silent era- convert to black and white, add effects to make it look antiquated, replace the audio with a musical sound track, and add title cards for the dialogue. As a prime example, see Silent Star Wars.

I found the audio clip and the Mean Girls trailer on youtube and downloaded them onto my computer. I used keepvid to download Mean Girls into Mpeg Streamclip and then I exported it into iMovie.

The trickiest part was inserting the title cards. Because the trailer was in one clip and had to insert the photo into the clip and then delete it so that it would create a space for me to insert it again. When I first inserted the card and tried to play the trailer it would just freeze on the image right before the title and then skip to the image directly after. I have no idea why but deleting and reinserting worked perfectly!

What’s Your Skills?

For this assignment I decided to not show you my mad skills at reading literature or coding websites, lucky you.  Instead, I made a video to show you my cocktailing skills. I used Serge Gainsbourg’s Black Trombone for the background music and kdenlive to cut and mix all the clips together. I hope you enjoy.

It’s Vacation Time

What was your favorite vacation? Don’t you wish you could relive it over and over? How about you share your favorite vacation with us through pictures, video and music. Create a video, sharing with us where you went!

This was a pretty straightforward assignment! I created this video using the Slideshow option in iPhoto! I simply indicated which photos I wanted in the slide show and moved them into the correct order. I was able to use a “Scrapbook” theme and insert text using iPhoto. I uploaded the music from my iTunes library!

Cooking with @kshaav

For my “Cooking Show” assignment I choose to make a burrito.  Being a college student, this is pretty much the extent of my cooking.  I put this movie together in iMovie and added title slides.

Here is my screenshot of the process.

Movie talk

Quick, what is my favorite movie? Well it is the best movie of all time, Independence Day. A 90s action film with aliens and Will Smith, what is not to like? So I wanted to do a video about Independence Day. Many of the movie based video assignments in the assignment bank were about recreating a film in some way. You can’t improve on greatness. I just wanted to talk about Independence Day. So what did I do? I created a new assignment. The assignment is a video one and I made it two stars. Basically I talked about the movie, showed clips from it, why it is good, and addressed a  major complaint about the movie.  Check it out below!

Good right? To create this video I used Imovie software for a mac. I got the clips for the video from these youtube links. It was fairly simple to make this video. Basically I recorded a few takes of me talking and cleaned up the video a little bit. I then inserted the clips were needed. Since it was fairly easy to make, I think that this assignment is only worth 2 stars.

So what do you guys thing about my talk about Independence Day?
