Rhi and Ty: Coming to a Neighborhood Near You

#sweatersforlife

MMSrogers

For my first assignment this week I chose to do the “Me and Bae” visual challenge. In this we had to create a photo from a picture of a famous couple of ourselves and our “bae”. I had a lot of fun making this picture. My boyfriend and I recently watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith. As soon as I saw this assignment I new I would have to do it. I had a bit of a hard time with the editing. I actually made this image at least 30 times before getting it at least semi-decent. The bae’s last name is Rogers and I’m always joking with him about the popular TV show, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. My inspiration came from that TV show and the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I took the movie poster and did some layering with the logo from Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood then I layered on me and Tyler’s faces. Though it was a tedious process, it was an enjoyable one. Here is a link to the original assignment:

Dust of Snow

I was really excited to do the Poetry Art Visual Assignment for three stars. In general, I don’t really care for poetry. Reading Pablo Neruda in high school was a painful and embarrassing experience. However, I have always had a soft spot for Robert Frost. I really love his poetry partially because I can connect and really visualize what he’s talking about. I spent a lot of time in Vermont growing up and my family still travels up there every year for Christmas. First, I chose a relatively smaller poem that I felt could fit on a poster. The one that stuck out most to me was Dust of Snow. I then started thinking what type of photo would be best to overlay with the poem. I chose an older picture from Billings Farm in Woodstock, Vermont because I felt it captured the shift in mood featured in the poem. The person on the sleigh ride with the horses looks relatively content but contrasts with the worn-down house in the background.

For my first visual assignment of the week, I chose the visual acrostic, which requires using pictures that represent each letter of your name. I chose to use make this post through my noir character. One of the qualities of my character is that he is a visual artist, so I tried to incorporate different forms of his work’s inspiration into the acrostic poem to describe him further. Below, my character describes how each picture represents his own creative work:

D
Dali: The artist who defines the genre of surrealism is one of my greatest inspirations. The way he conveys meaning through his art is something I strive toward. Additionally, his work shows the ability to find beauty in the unconventional, which is a quality I try to imitate in my own art.

A
Animation: I have lately been working on incorporating animated visuals into my work. The dark and emotional characters that famed animator and director Tim Burton creates are a huge inspiration in this field. Here is an early sketch of one of the characters he eventually developed for a film.

M
Movement: One of the most fulfilling forms of creative expression for me is through movement. Dramatic and free movement has been a centerpiece in many of my performance pieces. The artist shown here, FKA Twigs, is a musician and dancer who powerfully conveys the emotion of her music through beautiful and creative dances.

O
Orpheus and Eurydice: This sculpture by Auguste Rodin is based on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Sculpture is not a large part of my work, but I appreciate the way Rodin conveys the emotion of the story in this sculpture.

N
Noir: Noir is such an interesting form of visual. Lately, I have been attracted to new ways of using shadows and blended light in photography. It’s almost unexplainable, but I sometimes feel as though I am living my life in a noir filter.

Visual Assignment:

Create a Warning Poster

I chose this assignment because I saw so much potential for it. So, I figured I would make a warning for one of my favorite subjects…

ZOMBIES!!!

So I present to you the final product…

Untitled

So for this assignment I looked up zombie pictures on Google. I finally found this one. So then I worked a little magic in Paint, and Bippity-Boppity-Boo I had myself a zombie warning sign.

Jot It Down With “Jewel”

When first coming across the “Post-It Notes & Grocery Lists!”, I knew exactly which character to choose, as I had just created the most sultry Femme Fatale to ever grace the noir scene. Julia “Jewel” James has a busy schedule as a legal secretary, so keeping lists and notes is the only way to keep track … Continue reading Jot It Down With “Jewel”

Night out in town… “Love is the flower. You gotta let it grow”

Visual of where it all began

For another one of my visual assignments, I chose to Pick a Bad Photo and decided this would be part of the 5 points towards my character for the week.  This assignment is worth 2 stars and includes choosing a photo, making it look antique and writing words in Helvetica font on it.  It wasn’t too difficult to decide what I wanted to do with this since it’s designed around my character but I’m pretty satisfied with the result.

Lawrence

As stated in my post describing Lawrence, he is in some sort of business which has yet to be mentioned..but this should give everyone a pretty good idea about what kind of business he could be associated with.

Cats can be evil too

The first visual assignment that I chose for this week is the Shakespearean LOLcat.  It’s worth 2.5 stars and I chose it because it looked like fun to do!  It was hard finding a picture that was cute and accurate for a quote at the same time so I googled Shakespearean quotes, found a couple that I liked, then tried to find a picture that fit them.  This picture was the cutest one that I found and kittens could definitely be considered bad sometimes so here is the final product!

4 Lines, 5 Dots, 1 Curve

Cup with Straw

The goal of this assignment was to creat a picture with 4 lines, 5 dots and 1 curve. It was hard for me to think of any object that can be drawn with provided information. So I made my mind to draw the first thing I saw when I look around. It was a mug cup with straw in it. The straw needed only 2 lines and 1 dot. I used rest of them to draw a cup. I used 1 big dots to represent the top part of the cup and 2 dots to draw handle on it and 1 curve at the bottom to connet 2 lines in the cup to finish the shape. I drew I dot on the middle of the cup for decoration.

It was really easy and fun assignment but it required some creativity.

Historical Selfies

Wright Brothers Selfie

The most of the pictures in my phone are the pictures those were taken from the trip in Florida. Among those pictures, it was taken when I was in the airplane on a way back to Virginia. As I looked through the pictures, I immediately thought of Wright Brothers because they were the first airplane inventor.

I cut this image and pasted to the sky view of Miami (below). I did not know any photoshop website or did not download it so I utilized drawing board that was already exist in computer. I pasted them on the bottom of the background, but the up side was kind of seem empty. So I pasted the plane (right) that was invented by Wright Brothers.
